Totally helped shape a new wave of electro-indie bands and infact bring electro into the indie mainstream! The warm style of this electronic music, paired with the warm sound of vinyl as a medium, leaves you with an album that almost literally wraps a heavy blanket around you and hands you a mug of tea.

In fact, maybe in a few years we'll see another release of the album, but only with all the studio channels available so you could do your own mix of the record? Newly remastered from the original analog tapes, this 2LP edition of MGMT’s psychedelic rock masterpiece from 2010 is pressed on 180-gram vinyl and features the paradoxical “Flash Delirium. It's weird enough for the artsy indie fans and accessible enough for any patient listener to appreciate and enjoy, given time. One of the most influential albums of the '00's - it went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide and was certified Gold or Platinum in over 10 major territories, including double platinum in UK, Platinum in Australia, Gold in France and Platinum in the USA. even if some of the sounds and vocals, like on "Electric Feel," take considerable cues from the likes of the Bee Gees and The Doors. And pyramid shaped pictures in the albums artwork only work for big selling bands who have sold out to the illuminati anyway. Forty years after the Summer of Love (and 30 years after the Summer of Hate), MGMT is celebrating the grand re-opening of the third eye of the world with Oracular Spectacular, an enigmatic and prophetic collection of hallucinatory sounds and hook-riddled Pop tones for the new millennium.

Oracular Spectacular captures the zeal and reckless abandon of youth in every track, that unbridled exploratory energy accentuating moments of deep wisdom. While it may not be to the commercialisation standard of Oracular Spectacular, this is every bit as eclectic and sophisticated as that album. And "The Handshake" measures the weight of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser's newfound musical success with its costliness: being beholden to a major record label, whom they mock relentlessly in this track. The rest of the album drifts by nicely but doesn't make much of an impression, save the singalong "Plenty of Girls in the Sea" which stands out a bit from the tracks either side of it. Put simply, Oracular Spectacular is a triumph of modern music, certainly, but also the psychedelic genre. The album features MGMT's signature song "Kids", the funky track "Electric Feel" (famously covered by Weezer) and the smashing opening track "Time to Pretend". Even with cosmetic and audible defects in my very used copy of Oracular, this is an album YOU HAVE NOT heard until you’ve listened to it on this medium. The second album of 2019 from the awesome FOALS, following from Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost Part 1 which was released in March. Congratulations' is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence.

This is that rare thing an album of potent musical quality that provides instantly catchy but durable pop music(I loved this album from the start and it's still getting better with every play). The inner sleeve has glossy artwork (lots of concentric circles on one side, and lyrics printed on the other side). It's very liberating - like that 6:00 minute point in Siberian Breaks (and the video at that point too - open your eyes : ).Oracular Spectacular is the first major label studio album by MGMT and ultimately enjoyed both critical approval and commercial success, with the album selling over 500,000 copies in the U. It's now one of my all-time favorite albums and strove considerably to cement MGMT as one of my most beloved music groups; I rotate it regularly through my car's CD player during daily commutes.

While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely one for those that understood the musicianship and profound expression of the anti-commercial esoteric tracks from their debut album. This is an idea that will split people into those who think it's a muggy and terrible idea and others who think it's a brilliant idea. Always taking an unexpected creative turn at every new record, but always maintaining their cultural and commercial relevance over the subsequent 15 years, MGMT later released three further studio albums: " Congratulations " (2010), "MGMT" (2013) and "Little Dark Age" (2018). Yet, it's the exact same cut and pressing as the MOV/RSD editions of the same year; (literally in the deadwax MOVLP). So, it's disturbing when people give this album only one star, there's no redemption from a rating like that.

Definitely a stand out album of the 00s (and definitely a unique band) and should be up there with the likes of Green Day's American Idiot, The Killers' Hot Fuss and Radiohead's Kid A in the best alt rock albums of the decade.
