Description

I just used a little unicorn bauble I found at the craft store last holiday season to make a fun little “baby unicorn” that this dark unicorn tomte could hold. Because he’s not a barbarian–he’s there to take care of the baby unicorns! LOL!

Tapestry Needle: A tapestry needle with a large eye is essential for sewing different parts of the gnome together and for weaving in loose ends of yarn. If you want to use the hosiery method, roll a small piece of polyfill into a small ball the size you’d like the nose. Gnome Nuggets: My son loves this! We will be making a couple at home and a great gift for his teacher.

St Patricks Day Gnomes

For the arms, I added a little white faux fur around the wrists to look like the sleeves of his shirt were lined. Miniature Gnomes: Explore making miniature versions of gnomes that can be used as keychains, ornaments, or desk decorations.

Ideas for sealant: Liquitex varnish (my choice), polyurethane sealant (I prefer the spray-on style), and ModPodge are all good options. Apply sealant in long, light brush strokes or long, thin passes with the spray can. Any number of items can be used for gnome noses. I tend to make noses from a wood bead, a pom pom, or a rolled ball of polymer clay. I love using wood beads like these, though, because they’re consistent and handy to keep on hand. These are what I used for all three of the gnomes in this pattern set.Open the square corner and make the edges into a straight line by placing the side seam and bottom seam together. I like to nest these seams.

Add or subtract length to the gnome hat to make a taller or shorter hat. For example, if you want a shorter hat, try cutting your felt into a 5 by 7 inches (13 cm × 18 cm) cone. The boot pattern for this little gnome pair is not included in the pattern set–because I’m putting together a set of 10 gnome boot patterns and these will be included. So, look for that to come soon! I made this adorable little woodsman gnome using the same wrap-around beard style that I did on the shelf sitter gnome. Just looks like his body is made from the beard–it’s actually a charcoal felt. Occupation Gnomes: Can be designed to resemble specific professions or hobbies. For instance, you could make a gardener gnome with a hat adorned with flowers, or a chef gnome wearing a miniature apron. Take Breaks: Crocheting small pieces for amigurumi can be intricate work. Take regular breaks to avoid straining your hands and eyes. For each leg, arm, boot and hand, place the corresponding pieces with right sides facing together and pin or clip together. You should have (2) legs, arms, hands and boots. If you use a Xacto knife for cutting materials, be careful. Use a seamless matte and straightedge to ensure a safe crafting environment. You can also use sewing scissors.

After that, feel free to use felt, fleece, flannel, quilting cotton, minky, or home decor fabrics for the rest of him – raid your scrap bin!Take the other body piece and place it right side facing the other and pin or clip along the sides and the bottom (where the legs are stitched) and sew those 3 sides closed, reinforcing the beginning and ending stitching. Do not skip sealing the paint. All types of paint should be sealed when working on the outside of glass. Chips and dings will flake off and scratches will show easily if the paint isn’t sealed. Using a ¼ " seam allowance, sew the side seams of the arms and legs, leaving the short sides open, making sure to reinforce your starting and ending stitches. The final step is to hot glue or hand sew on any embellishments, ribbon trims, or props.
